It was just a year ago yesterday that I was baptized, I can’t believe it! I had been “baptized as a baby” which doesn’t fall into my legit baptism category…nor Jesus’. Let me take us back to last year and re-cap the glorious day. For a few months I had my mind set on being baptized in the ocean by Pastor Brian Benjamin. After four long months, our schedules finally cooperated and I was scheduled to be baptized at Juno Beach. It was a BEAUTIFUL Sunday afternoon and we just wrapped up a small group party at the Woolwine’s house… the anticipation was growing by the minute. I got my baptism ensemble together and freshened up in the bathroom before we headed to Juno Beach. A few minutes later I happily skipped through the Woolwine’s house when I made eye contact with Pastor Kevin (PK). He had a very serious look on his face and regretfully told me that they canceled the beach baptisms because the waves were too rough. Might I add, this was the last beach baptism scheduled for the year.
SO… being a typical girl… my eyes filled with tears. PK handles me well, especially in that state but, I was simply devastated. I decided to walk outside and call Stephen, our middle school pastor, and told him what had happened.. he was supposed to be in the water with me and Pastor Brian when I got baptized. To much surprise, Stephen had an alternative option for me. Less than an hour later I arrived at Stephen’s apartment with a few of my best friends and….my pool clothes.
YUP!,,. I was baptized in Stephen’s club house pool… I learned that day that it wasn’t about where my baptism was or who baptized me. The truth was, it wasn’t about me at all. It was about Jesus and what He had done in my life. My baptism wasn’t “mine” it was just me humbly showing on the outside what Jesus had done on the inside. October 28, 2007 marked a divine day of redemption, deliverance, and devotion…. one I won’t soon forget.

This is such a cool story. I’m sorry that the beach thing didn’t happen that day, but this is a great ending! And I know the memories will linger forever. It is one of those events that remains indelibly etched into our memories.
Glad you shared the story.
